What Makes a Woman Beautiful?
What makes a woman beautiful? It seems like a silly question given its obvious androtypes and stereotypical definitions. But the more I think about this the more I’m bothered by it. What exactly constitutes “beauty” to any woman? Is there a certain kind of “beauty”, or is beauty just a subjective standard? It’s time for a wake-up call on our culture!
I believe beauty encompasses much more than what is outwardly seen; it’s an inner beauty that has little to do with physical appearance. And while I can’t pinpoint a definition for beauty, I will try anyway. After all, as much as I hate to think of myself as ugly, or fat, I do have to accept that I am not a physical specimen – although I am very certainly not comfortable in the “waist-sniffing” category either!
What makes a woman beautiful? Beauty surrounds me in all aspects of my life, including my appearance. My skin, my hair, my build, my perfume, and my personality are all aspects that I take into account when I evaluate my attractiveness. Even my love life has to consider my inner beauty: whether or not I’m attractive to my husband, the people I love, and the people who look at me through the lens of my attractiveness. (I don’t have a lot of friends, so I try not to set them up in my head.)
As I look in the mirror, all I see is my imperfections – and all of them are important inner beauty. But I also see my fullness, my grace, my warmth, my loving kindness, my creativity, and my intellect. And I know that my true beauty lies somewhere between those things. Because if I’m honest with myself, I know that beauty is neither inner nor outer – it’s a lie on both ends. What makes me beautiful is my pure inner beauty, my true inner goodness, my true self.
There are two parts to your being that are important when considering what makes a woman beautiful. The physical beauty you are born with is the first part, and you enhance it by making yourself attractive. You can be physically attractive without being truly beautiful. And you can be truly beautiful without being attractive. This is because the truth is that some people are not attractive for the very reason that they are not really beautiful. A truly beautiful person isn’t someone who is trying too hard to be attractive.
In fact, every Godlike quality we have in ourselves is an outward expression of an inner beauty or goodness that we already possess. Think of it this way: you could be the most gorgeous person alive, but if you have nothing attractive about you, no inner qualities that make up your whole “person”, then you will not be able to attract God into your life. And, what about the millions of women in the world who are not beautiful, but are beautiful inside? Have you ever noticed that many women out there who are not attractive but have great inner qualities that catch the eye of God?
The second part of what makes a woman beautiful is her physical appearance. If you are attractive, but your skin and hair are not proper, then you won’t be able to draw God into your life. And if you are not able to attract him, then you will be unable to find any peace in yourself. God doesn’t want to be around a woman who isn’t beautiful because she is not a part of his creation. You must remember this when you are trying to figure out what it is about you that makes you beautiful.
The fact is, the more beautiful we are internally, the more attractive we will appear externally. This may seem like a hard concept to understand, but you need to remember that the only reason why there are so many ugly people in this world is because they aren’t beautiful internally. In order to become beautiful, you must first learn how to enhance the parts of you that you possess already, so that you can begin to receive what God is offering. Remember that beauty is inside you and only you can determine what it is that makes you beautiful inside.
